I can't find a way to trigger a pull, so I set my mail to manually pull (since mail pulls whenever you open it). But the nice thing is, it will stay on the screen till I clear it, or it gets replaced. I've been using the system for about 3 days now, and honestly, it's a bit more useful that the iPhone just increasing the number on the mail icon.
